From Blueprint to Belonging: How Mad House Collective Built a Home for Creativity & Community
At Mad House Collective, we believe that a home is more than just four walls—it’s a foundation for growth, collaboration, and creative possibility. That’s why, when we set out to build The Haven, our first community-driven creative residence, we knew it had to be something special.

A Vision for Creative Living
The idea for The Haven was born out of a simple but powerful truth: creatives thrive when they have a stable, inspiring environment to work from. Too many artists, freelancers, and entrepreneurs struggle with unstable housing or uninspiring spaces that make it difficult to focus on their craft. So we asked: What if we built a home designed specifically for creatives—one that nurtures both artistic expression and financial independence?
Partnering with a team of purpose-driven general contractors, architects, and local businesses, we designed a space where creatives could live affordably while contributing their skills in meaningful ways.
Building More Than a House
The Haven is not just a place to sleep—it’s a self-sustaining, multi-functional space designed to foster collaboration and career growth. Here’s what we built:
✅ Private Living Quarters: Comfortable, modern spaces designed for personal retreat and rest.
✅ Communal Workspaces: Shared areas for brainstorming, networking, and skill-sharing among residents.
✅ Creative Studios: Dedicated rooms for music production, design work, videography, and more.
✅ A Sustainable Kitchen: Stocked with locally sourced food and operated as part of our Power Bowl Initiative, which provides meals for both residents and the surrounding community.
✅ Outdoor Inspiration Areas: A garden, gathering spaces, and quiet spots for reflection, connection, and creative breakthroughs.
A Collaborative Effort
This project was only possible because of the power of partnerships. Local businesses contributed materials, our network of creatives designed murals and interiors, and skilled builders helped bring our vision to life. In return, The Haven now serves as a hub for work exchange, mentorship, and sustainable creative careers.
Residents contribute 20 hours per week to creative projects, business collaborations, or community initiatives in exchange for affordable housing and professional development opportunities.
What’s Next?
The Haven is just the beginning. We’re already planning future projects to expand our network of creative residencies, ensuring that more artists and entrepreneurs have access to stable housing, professional support, and meaningful opportunities.
If you’re a business looking to collaborate, a creative in need of space, or a supporter of sustainable artistic communities, we’d love to connect.
